Who We Are

Hear from Matt Lucas, our President and CEO, as he explains our dedication to providing people worldwide with Bible Engagement for Life.

Bible Engagement for Life

Since the beginning of Our Daily Bread Ministries, our goal has remained the same: to make the life-changing wisdom of the Bible understandable and accessible to all.

Today, we’re reinforcing this mission with a new tagline you will hear often: Bible Engagement for Life. We hope it helps you understand our unwavering commitment to Scripture and desire to connect people to God’s Word.

"We believe that proclaiming God’s Word points people toward everlasting life, that engaging God’s Word is essential to a healthy spiritual life and that passing God’s Word on to the next generation is the life work of every believer." – Matt Lucas, President and CEO

We know you share this belief and we also know we could never do all that we do without you.

Thank you for your prayers and support.

History of Our Daily Bread Ministries

In 1938, the ministry started with a radio program called Detroit Bible Class. Since then, our audience has grown from a small group of dedicated radio listeners to millions of people around the world who use our Bible-based resources.

Over the years our name has changed to better reflect the variety of resources we offer. Today, we realize that most people recognize who we are by the well-loved devotional Our Daily Bread.  So we changed our name to Our Daily Bread Ministries to more clearly communicate who we are. Although our name has changed, our focus remains the same: reaching out to people all around the world with the message of God’s love.

We’re a non-denominational, non-profit charitable organization registered with Canada Revenue Agency.  Our staff staff and volunteers work out of our office in Windsor, Ontario, and we also are affiliated with over 37 Our Daily Bread offices around the world.  Globally, the ministry of Our Daily Bread distributes more than 60 million resources in 150 countries. Regardless of whether it’s a radio or television broadcast, DVD, podcast, book, mobile app, or website, we provide materials to help people grow in their relationship with God.

History in Canada

For more than 80 years, we’ve witnessed God’s faithfulness to the mission of Our Daily Bread Ministries.

Starting in 1938, Canadians were served from the U.S. office in Grand Rapids, Michigan, but eventually it made sense to have an office in Canada, staffed by Canadians. Since September 23, 1981, that office has been through many changes. Originally situated in a 500-square-foot office overlooking the Detroit River in Windsor, Ontario, the office and staff grew quickly. By 1999, the Board of Directors determined that a piece of property in a new development should be purchased to build our own office, rather than paying rent each month.

It was a quick transaction. So quick, in fact, that the new building was being built even before the new road was in place! The office walls were going up as the road grader began levelling the ground where the road would be built.

As a result of His blessings, today, we are able to distribute over 2.5 million copies of Our Daily Bread throughout Canada each year.

We can only praise God that He has maintained the ministry in Canada for all of these years. And we appreciate you, your families, your friends, your churches, and your support that has allowed us to share the good news of God’s love, grace, and forgiveness all over the world.

Mission and Vision

The most important relationship you will ever have is with Jesus Christ. That’s why we want to see people of all nations know who He is and experience a personal relationship with Him. We want to help everyone grow in their faith, become more like Christ, and share the truth of God’s Word with others.

Our Mission

Our mission is to make the life-changing wisdom of the Bible understandable and accessible to all.

Our Vision

Our vision is to see people of all nations experiencing a personal relationship with Christ, growing to be more like Him, and serving in a local body of His family.

Bible Engagement for Life

We strive to live a life consistent with biblical principles, engage with the Bible on a consistent basis, and demonstrate continued growth and spiritual development.

Statement of Faith

At Our Daily Bread Ministries, we trust in God above all else. With each opportunity, we rely on His wisdom and strength to guide our ministry. The Bible is our foundation. We recognize the opportunity we’ve been given to share His Word and are committed to being faithful stewards of the resources entrusted to us. We believe . . .

  • The Old and New Testament Scriptures are inspired by God, without error in the original manuscripts, fulfilled in Christ, and the revelation of our creation, fall, redemption, and restoration.
  • In one God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, the only begotten Son of God, and the perfect revelation of the Father.
  • In Jesus’ virgin birth, sinless life, sacrificial death, bodily resurrection, ascension to the Father, and triumphant return.
  • That, as a result of the fall, we are in need of salvation from sin and eternal death. God graciously provided this salvation through Jesus, who alone reconciles all who repent of their sin and put their faith in Him.
  • It is by the Holy Spirit that we are convicted of sin and led, through repentance and new birth, into the family of God to live and grow in Christlikeness, in trust in God, and in love for others.
  • In one church, expressed through local bodies of God’s family, made up of all who are in Christ, and who together are commissioned to make Christ-followers of all nations.
  • In the return of our Lord to bring the fullness of His kingdom, to judge the living and the dead, and to restore the peace and joy of His creation.
  • God’s sovereign rule extends over all in creation, judgement and redemption and His design for marriage is to be between one man and one woman. (Gen 2:21-24, John 1:1-3, 1 Timothy 4:1, Colossians 1:15-20)

Our Principles

Biblical Foundation

  • Honor the Bible as the standard by which we must evaluate all belief, instruction, policy, and practice (2 Tim. 3:16).
  • Remain true to our statement of faith (2 Tim. 1:13).
  • Reflect a well-rounded approach to doctrinal emphasis (Acts 20:27).

Servant Leadership

Spiritual Commitment

  • Stay in close fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Don’t give Him reason to say, “I have this against you, that you have left your first love” (Rev. 2:4).
  • Do the work of Our Daily Bread Ministries in the Lord’s wisdom and strength rather than trying to do it on our own (Gal. 2:20; 3:3).
  • Show a consistent pattern of behavior that distinguishes us as the Lord’s people, whether on or off the job (1 Pet. 1:14-15).
  • Always trust in God and do what is right (1 Pet. 3:16).

Concern For Those We Serve

  • Provide the kind of personal, prompt, and practical attention that we would want for ourselves (2 Cor. 4:5, 15).
  • Speak the truth in love. Avoid being unnecessarily offensive (2 Tim. 2:24).
  • Cultivate an open and honest relationship with those who respond to our efforts (2 Cor. 4:2).
  • Be sensitive to all other relationships and spheres of influence, including but not limited to vendors, visitors, neighbors, community, and government (Rom. 13:7-8).

Concern For Co-Workers

  • Recognize the individual worth and the personal interests of those with whom we work (Phil. 2:1-4).

Quality Of Service

  • Strive for a quality of workmanship and presentation that will dignify, strengthen, and enhance our message (1 Cor. 10:31).
  • Be faithful stewards of every resource entrusted to us (1 Cor. 4:2).

Character Of Service

  • Increase or decrease outreach as funds are available.
  • Avoid indebtedness (Rom. 13:8).
  • Never make our organizational survival the dominant motive for decisions (Phil. 1:19-26).
  • Avoid self-congratulation (Prov. 27:2).

Relationship To Other Ministries

  • Recognize and respect what the Lord is doing through other individuals and organizations (1 Cor. 1:10-13).
  • Avoid any affiliation that would compromise our purpose or weaken our effectiveness (2 Cor. 6:14).
  • Conduct our ministries in a way that supports and complements the local church (Eph. 4:1-7).
