Don’t Near-Death Experiences Disprove the Bible’s View on Death?

Many non-Christian mystics, spiritists, and occultists have developed their own views of the afterlife on the basis of personal visions. Although some of these experiences may have been life-changing and personally meaningful, accounts of such experiences aren’t necessarily reliable sources of information regarding the nature of life after death.

People who depart too far from biblical faith in seeking to personally and experientially confirm the nature of life after death tend to drift off into occultism. Therefore, to anyone who becomes deeply influenced by these accounts we offer this biblical warning: “Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light” ( 2 Corinthians 11:14 ). Scripture should remain the standard by which all such accounts are evaluated.
