When Dr. M.R. DeHaan started his radio outreach in September 1938, he focused entirely on teaching the Word of God over the airwaves. He was sure the Lord’s coming was going to happen at any moment, and many times he would close his program with the words “Perhaps Today” – indicating his hope in the soon return of the Lord. Over the years, those two words resonated in listener’s ears over and over again, and one listener decided to paint a small plaque with the words Perhaps Today and send it to Dr. DeHaan. The words above are taken from that actual plaque they painted. For years, Dr. DeHaan kept the plaque on his desk, and it has been preserved in a special display case in the Grand Rapids office for visitors to see.
For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 ESV
For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
1 Thessalonians 5:2 ESV
Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
John 14:1-3 ESV
